Ibiza has a reputation for parties, and that reputation tends to overshadow the rest. But Ibiza with kids is a different story: a small island, short distances, crystal-clear shallow water and a pace that works really well if you plan it right.<\/p>\n\n
We live here and we see families come through every day. This is what actually helps.<\/p>\n\n
The rule is always the same: sandy bottom, gentle slope, facilities nearby and decent parking.<\/p>\n\n
Ses Salines.<\/strong> The best-known beach in the south and one of the best for kids. A kilometre and a half of sand, the water gets deeper very slowly and you can walk a long way in. Lifeguards in season and parking available. It’s inside the natural park, so a walk through the salt pans rounds off the day. Here’s the practical info: how to get there and where to park<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n Talamanca.<\/strong> Very close to Ibiza town. Calm bay, shallow water, easy access and a pleasant promenade for buggies or bikes. Plenty of affordable restaurants nearby.<\/p>\n\n Cala Llonga.<\/strong> In Santa Eulalia, with a wooden boardwalk \u2014 a real bonus if you have a buggy.<\/p>\n\n Cala Bassa.<\/strong> In Sant Josep. Spacious, with a pine grove for shade and very clear water. Go early in summer.<\/p>\n\n Es Niu Blau.<\/strong> Small, near Santa Eulalia, with pine trees and very calm water. A good option if you want somewhere sheltered.<\/p>\n\n Cala Xarraca.<\/strong> In the north, rarely crowded and with great seabeds for snorkelling with older kids.<\/p>\n\n A useful heads-up: Cala Sant Vicent is convenient and has everything, but the water gets deep quickly. Bear that in mind if you’re going with little ones.<\/p>\n\n Dalt Vila.<\/strong> The walled city is pedestrianised, so kids can roam freely. Climbing the walls with a bit of pirate history to set the scene is far more engaging than any museum.<\/p>\n\n The Ses Salines Natural Park.<\/strong> The salt pans turn pink and the flamingos wander through \u2014 you can spot them from February to May and from July to October. It’s a flat walk suitable for almost all ages, and the visitor centre explains how salt is made. We cover it all in the Ses Salines Natural Park guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n The markets.<\/strong> Las Dalias on Saturdays and Punta Arab\u00ed on Wednesdays in summer. Stalls, music, food and plenty of room to roam.<\/p>\n\n The sea from a different angle.<\/strong> A short boat trip to Formentera or some snorkelling in a rocky cove. From age six or seven, it’s usually the highlight they remember.<\/p>\n\n This is the tip that makes the biggest difference and almost nobody mentions it.<\/p>\n\n In summer, the two-to-five slot is useless with kids. It’s too hot, the beach is packed and everyone ends up in a bad mood.<\/p>\n\n It works much better like this: beach from nine to one, a relaxed lunch in the shade, and back out again from five onwards.<\/strong> Sunset is when the island is at its best and the spots are at their emptiest.<\/p>\n\n One more thing: don’t try to cover the whole island. Ibiza takes forty minutes to cross, but with kids two activities a day is enough. Three is too many.<\/p>\n\n Eating out with kids in Ibiza has two problems: the hours beach spots keep, which tend to start late, and menus where sometimes the only kid-friendly option is a portion of chips.<\/p>\n\n What you need is somewhere with continuous hours, parking and dishes you can customise.<\/p>\n\n We’re open every day from 9am to 8pm<\/strong>, with no midday break, and we have our own car park. We’re in Sant Jordi de ses Salines, on the way to Ses Salines beach, so we fit neatly into the morning plan or the trip back.<\/p>\n\n And the important thing with kids: you can build your plate however you like<\/strong>. That takes care of the classic situation where one child won’t eat vegetables, another doesn’t want sauce and the youngest only wants chicken and rice.
