The south of Ibiza has the airport, the salt flats and some of the island’s best beaches. But when it comes to eating, most people settle for the first place they see on the road \u2014 and that’s almost never the best option.<\/p>\n\n

This guide breaks the area down: Sant Josep village, Sant Jordi de ses Salines and the natural park itself. Each has its own logic.<\/p>\n\n

Understanding the area before you choose<\/h2>\n\n

The municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia is huge. It stretches from the airport to Cala d’Hort, and includes Sant Jordi de ses Salines, the natural park and a large stretch of the west coast.<\/p>\n\n

For eating, it helps to split it into three:<\/p>\n\n

Sant Josep village<\/strong>, inland. Square atmosphere, more reasonable prices, lots of locals.<\/p>\n\n

Sant Jordi de ses Salines<\/strong>, along the airport road. It’s a pass-through area, with all the good things that brings: parking, long opening hours and a takeaway option.<\/p>\n\n

The natural park and the beaches.<\/strong> Beach bars (*chiringuitos*) and beach clubs, at beachfront prices.<\/p>\n\n

Eating inside the Ses Salines Natural Park<\/h2>\n\n

Let’s start with what most people are looking for \u2014 and the most useful warning.<\/p>\n\n

Inside the park there are well-known beach bars (*chiringuitos*) next to the beach and at Es Cavallet. The food is good and the setting is worth it, but there are three things to know before you go:<\/p>\n\n

In high season, book ahead.<\/strong> Turning up on a Saturday in August at 2pm without having called is an hour wasted.<\/p>\n\n

The prices are beachfront prices.<\/strong> That’s the deal, and it’s fair enough, but it’s worth going in with the right expectations.<\/p>\n\n

If you leave to find something else, you lose your parking spot.<\/strong> And getting back in in July is a nightmare.<\/p>\n\n

Sant Jordi de ses Salines<\/h2>\n\n

It’s the village you pass through on the way to the beach, between Ibiza town and the airport. It has its own life all year round \u2014 which in the south of Ibiza isn’t all that common.<\/p>\n\n

Here you’ll find everything from bakeries and neighbourhood bars to roadside restaurants with parking. It’s the area with the best balance of quality, price and convenience across the entire southern strip.<\/p>\n\n

Sant Josep village<\/h2>\n\n

Heading inland, Sant Josep has a square with an 18th-century church and several spots around it with terraces. It’s a nice stop if you’re coming from Cala Tarida or Cala Vadella and don’t feel like eating at the beach.<\/p>\n\n

Prices are more reasonable than on the coast, the atmosphere is relaxed, and there are plenty of locals \u2014 which is usually a good sign.<\/p>\n\n
